Context: The archetypal symbols of astrology have been around for millennia, and basically, astrology is a language that helps us map and understand our connections with the energy of a living universe. Astrology allows us to track archetypal human experiences and knowable life cycles.

In other words, the planets are not in charge, and do not cause or compel us to do anything. The same divine intelligence that created us also created the planets in our solar system.  Perhaps the best way to consider how astrology works is, when we look up into the sky at the planets, asteroids and key points in our solar system, it’s like looking into a giant cosmic mirror, reflecting our human experiences, energetic cycles, and evolution back to us.

The Scoops:

Planet Uranus has changed signs!

On, Monday, July 7 at 2:45am CT, planet Uranus changed signs, moving from earthy, steady, strong, and determined Taurus terrain into intellectual, chatty, curious – and sometimes scattered, Gemini terrain.

Why is this such a big deal?

Uranus is an outer planet that spends 7-8 years in one sign of the zodiac, so when it changes signs there are significant energetic shifts. The effects of Uranus moving through Gemini will express personally and collectively and will apply to everyone’s chart, not just Gemini people.

Everyone has Gemini energy in their natal astrology charts somewhere and this 7 year transit will also challenge the Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces sections of everyone’s astrology chart.

The last time Uranus moved through the sign of Gemini was 1941- 1949 — 76 years ago!

In many ways, Uranus is the planetary energy that’s most associated with change and freedom — often sudden, revolutionary and unpredictable.

In Astrology, Uranus is considered an unpredictable awakener, disrupting the status quo, bringing change, and calling us to move forward into the future. Uranus often seems to arrive with no warning, like a lightning strike, and can bring either unexpected opportunities or unexpected difficulties, or both. It often functions like a cosmic trickster, turning things upside down, lest life get too structured, routine, or predictable.

Continue Here from Mailer:

Uranus sometimes represents the sensibilities of a rascal, or court jester, who abhors pretense and convention and uses creative and inventive means to up-end them, bringing liberating release to any repressed energies or restricted systems. It is impersonal and often unrestrained in who or what it will affect — anything that is not expressing from its essential authenticity could be fair game for a shake up or a wake up call from Uranus.

Positively, Uranus helps by breaking up stagnant energy and opening up more authentic expressions or innovative ideas and open-minded approaches. Uranus can offer creative solutions to vexing problems that favor the majority of people involved in a situation or society.

Uranus can also be rebellious and unruly – spinning on its side, even its orbit is non-conformist!

Uranus

Negatively, the expression of Uranus can sometimes seem quite harsh in its extremely impersonal, even breathtaking, disregard for the cost and effects of its disruption. Uranus is also egalitarian, and seeks to level humanity’s playing field, which can sometimes be a chaotic process.

When Uranus comes to call, it helps to try to be flexible and roll with the changes; don’t cling too tightly to the past, and try not to over-react to sudden change if at all possible. And this is where Uranus’ expression in the sign of Gemini could be very interesting!

Gemini energy is known for its curiosity, versatility, and agility.

Uranus and Gemini share more common energetic threads than Uranus and Taurus*  Disruptive, change-agent Uranus has spent the last 7 years in Taurus which is a sign that’s often slow to change and likes the predictability of routines, but Gemini is a sign that likes variety and can pivot, adapt, take in new information, and move forward much more easily, often while retaining a sense of humor.

Uranus also relates strongly with innovation and technology and Gemini seeks to communicate, learn, share information, and travel. So, for some folks, Uranus in Gemini could spark interest in their educations, or learning something new or interesting, including IT or using AI; while others turn toward writing, teaching or photography. Starting a podcast, creating an app, joining a book club, or planning trips could also be great ways to allow these energies some room to express. Experimenting with new ideas or options, and new or updated forms of communication, connection, or community involvement could appeal to others.

Uranus in Gemini could correlate with news or changes involving siblings, friends, or neighbors – perhaps sudden and possibly exciting.  Changes that seem sudden are likely the result of pressures that have been building up over time. Since Uranus is sometimes rebellious or even iconoclastic, some of these changes could possibly be disruptive or harsh and might also correlate with estrangements. Keeping an open mind about these types of changes might help us to move forward. It could also be useful to remember those times in life where something good came out of situations that we originally regarded as “bad” or unwelcome.

Breakdowns often precede breakthroughs, and with this planetary combination, the potentials for both personal and societal breakthroughs that could benefit many people also exist. Game-changing breakthroughs in travel, AI, or nervous system research and treatments are possible while issues with airborne contaminants could be problematic, since Gemini is an air sign that also corresponds with the nervous system.

Challenges with Uranus in Gemini could come in the form of increased distractibility, nervous energy, and restlessness with less ability/willingness to follow through on anything. Too much multi-tasking and spreading ourselves too thin could lead to forgetfulness, lack of productivity, and decreased ability to be present. Brilliant ideas could come yet be lost due to endless distractions or frittering time and energy away on scrolling, media, tech games, and devices.

Gossip, fabrication, dishonesty, evasiveness, or even inappropriate flirting could become problematic with Uranus in Gemini and could be especially hurtful or damaging if passed off as clever or harmless. These dysfunctional energies could also manifest increasingly in society and on the world stage.

In my view, one of the greatest potentials of the expression of Uranus in Gemini is the discovery of resilience – even unexpected or surprising levels of resilience.  Resilience is defined as the capacity to recover, adjust, adapt, rebound or bounce back from stress, adversity, or unwelcome circumstances and that could very well be the greatest gift of this 7 year cycle, albeit sometimes activated by challenges. Even those who might usually be less flexible could discover that they can adapt to changing circumstances more willingly than in the past – especially if they’re working to connect with more authentic versions of themselves.

At times during the next 7-8 years, adjusting and adapting might be easier than we think. Other times, we might embrace change because we see that it’s necessary and important, and still other times, we’ll change simply because there’s not much choice but to change. And sometimes, our thoughts and attitudes might change, giving us a different outlook that could make life seem very different.

In the process of discovering our inner resilience we might struggle at times, but we might also uncover new pathways, solutions, or methods that help us to break through and carry on. If a new, healthy interest arises, it might be beneficial to check it out. Maybe we have something to teach or share?  Uranus in Gemini knows that change is constant and that life is meant to be interesting, and that sometimes other people are delightful to talk to, and listen to, and learn from.

* Uranus traveled through the sign of Taurus from May of 2018 until July 7, 2025 and will re-visit Taurus Nov 8 2025 – April 26, 2026.  Previously, Uranus traveled through Taurus in the 1930s.  In January 2018, I gave a talk about the 7 year transit of Uranus in Taurus and highlighted some important themes and events of the 1930’s that resonated and reverberated (the Great Depression, food shortages, community involvement, and the run-up to WWII when both Hitler and Ghandi were key figures).  Video from that talk is here: relevant discussion starts at 42 minutes 23 seconds.
