Planet Saturn entered the sign of Aries over Memorial Day weekend for the first time since February 1999 (4/7/96 – 2/28/99) signaling a significant shift in focus in our lives!

We’re now emerging from a 2.5 – 3 year cycle of life lessons and experiences related to Pisces energies, where the path has often been foggy and unclear. Whether we realized it or not, a 30 year cycle of life was dissolving and making way for a new beginning.  During this time, various people, places, and things might have gone from our lives, whether we wanted them to go or not.  If there were times when we felt baffled, or frustrated that we didn’t know where to focus, or confused about what would come next, it’s quite likely that we weren’t really supposed to know yet.

Even if we have tried to hold onto certain aspects of our lives, some of them probably still seeped away, like water or grains of sand through our closed fingers. However, on a subtler, more intuitive level, we might have also recognized that while some components of our lives were changing or leaving, we were also integrating important aspects of our lives into our ongoing awareness, to take with us as we proceed.  It’s likely that, at times, this process seemed to unfold without the conscious exertion of our own will, as if the shapes of our lives were morphing in ways that we weren’t necessarily directing and that we couldn’t always see, or name, or explain.

Again, what we’re realizing now is that we might have experienced some endings or losses as one chapter of life came to a close, and yet, some memories, lessons, people, and various aspects of our achievements will continue to accompany us on our journeys. We’ve had successes and disappointments.  We’ve done our best and we have evolved, and now it’s time to face forward and consider our next steps. It’s time to begin again, as planet Saturn seeks to express its themes and energies through the sign of Aries – the first sign of the zodiac, over the next 2.5 years, which also initiates another 30 year cycle of life and growth.

Saturn will remain in Aries for approximately 3 years and will noticeably affect those areas of your life/natal chart containing planets and house placements in Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn.

Planet Saturn, sometimes referred to as the taskmaster, is the planetary energy that corresponds with serious review and the application of pressure, integrity and discipline to the basic structures in our lives. Saturn tests those structures to make sure they are still viable and appropriate. Saturn is the planet associated with grown up responsibilities and commitments, asking us to review and assess our priorities, to let go of what isn’t working, and develop practices and discipline to achieve our goals.

The archetypal Aries energy is fiery, active, and impatient.  In the Northern hemisphere, Aries is the energy that initiates Spring.  It is the strong and youthful energy of new beginnings that challenges and breaks through the snow and cold of “old man” winter.  Aries expressions are often similar to those of an adolescent, in both positive and negative ways.  Aries energy doesn’t like to sit still for long, when bored or pent up, it can prefer any action to no action.  While it is often bold and courageous, like a warrior, Aries energy can also be rash and imprudent because it doesn’t pause to reflect on the consequences of its actions before it moves forward.  It is often ardent and quick to anger and, usually, relatively quick in subsiding.  Aries energy is enthusiastic to initiate action but can also struggle to maintain its momentum, growing bored or restless with its new projects fairly quickly.

Mature Saturn is not exactly comfortable expressing through the youthful sign of Aries, nevertheless, the combination can function well together sometimes. Like a seasoned coach offering guidance and wisdom to a young protégé, Saturn offers discipline to energetic Aries, and both are, in their own ways, goal-oriented and ambitious. Aries likes goals and action and activity and Saturn likes to plan and follow through and get results. Saturn’s characteristic determination can contribute persistence in situations where impatient Aries energy might otherwise falter or lose interest.

Similarly, Saturn’s willingness to get back to the drawing board, and/or pick up where it left off, can be an asset to both the Aries individual and the Aries section of our charts, by helping us to follow-up rather than quit prematurely. In fact, Saturn’s inclination to be thorough, methodical, and strategic expressing bravely in the sign of Aries, could provide the missing resolve to develop and follow through on important goals in parts of our lives that might have been languishing in recent years.

Planet Saturn moving through courageous Aries terrain also helps us understand the consequences of inaction and the need to follow through consistently in order to achieve our heart’s desires. While Aries energy can be brave and independent, it can sometimes benefit from a thoughtful, steady hand or a realistic assessment of progress while initiating opportunities or blazing trails forward. Saturn can provide these energies for Aries, and after three years of traveling through, nebulous, diffuse, and sometimes lethargic Pisces terrain, planet Saturn moving through Aries can help us to harness our needs to get moving again, and to be responsible about it.

Meanwhile, the astrological plot thickens as both planet Saturn and planet Neptune, which have been traveling near to each other through the sign of Pisces, are now traveling quite close together in the sign of Aries!

In February 2026, Saturn and Neptune will come together exactly (conjunction) to share the same degree of longitude in the sky!

Context: Why this matters, or relates, to any of us?

The archetypal symbols of astrology have been around for millenia and astrology is a language that helps us map and understand our connections with the energy of a living universe.  Astrology allows us to track archetypal human experiences and knowable life cycles.
