As humanity continues its lengthy transition into the #AgeOfAquarius, February’s energy sounded a meaningful cosmic refrain, with a parade of planets continuing to move through the sign of Aquarius in a rare line up. The last time so many planets gathered in the sign of Aquarius was 1962! Of course, like Beetlebaum, powerful dwarf planet Pluto lingers in the late degrees of Capricorn indicating that potent forces of transformation are still working to rehabilitate and refurbish the major institutions and structures of government and society. This push pull between traditional or “old” ways of organizing and holding power, represented by Saturn and Capricorn, and future ways of innovating more equitable and thoughtful systems of power, represented by Uranus and Aquarius, are playing out in dramatic astro-fashion in this year’s major configuration of Saturn square Uranus. Before the discovery of Uranus in 1781, Saturn was considered the ruler of both Capricorn and Aquarius and, after the discovery of Uranus, Aquarius terrain was given to unruly Uranus, for various reasons. Yet, this year’s square energy represents a bit of an arm wrestle where both and neither can win or lose. Like two cars coming into an intersection, there must be mutual recognition and choices about “which car goes first” to pass through the intersecting space. These planets are vying against each other in an intersecting space all year and, at times, pragmatic, strategic, responsible Saturn will predominate and at other times, unpredictable, freedom loving, change agent Uranus will go first – but neither will be completely free of the other this year and problems will only escalate if both do not express adequately. Since the planets serve as mirrors for our human experiences, these energies suggest that the future is upon us and change is definitely happening, but rebellion simply for the sake of disruption and chaos is untenable and unacceptable and cannot be allowed to proceed. These two planetary energies working together and influencing each other, can have massive and profound success in improving upon important existing structures as well as in establishing long overdue and much improved systems that benefit a much greater segment of humanity.
