Libra’s energy will figure more prominently when the Sun enters the sign of Libra at the Fall Equinox on Tuesday, September 22 at 8:31am CT and joins planet Mercury, already traveling though Libra. This equinox chart contains messages and themes that will continue to echo over the next 90 days. With this Libra equinox, we feel the pull to focus more on our relationships and what we want to experience with others. After a long year of varying degrees of social isolation, we consider how to bring our personal lives back into balance safely. Ordinarily, the exuberance and spontaneity of this year’s Equinox chart would correlate with increased travel, socializing, and playfulness, but during the ongoing Covid pandemic, the strong suggestion for this chart is to channel social needs into creativity as much as possible. Exploration of our talents could be a rewarding pivot away from exploration through travel. Venus, the ruler of Libra is also moving in heightened aspects with both Jupiter and Neptune, calling out in positive ways for optimism, self expression, and imagination yet, in negative ways, these energies could correlate with serious lapses in restraint and common sense as both the urge to escape and the pull to excess are strong. Serious Saturn could contribute some mature, sobering, reality checks on any unrealistic urges, so it could be useful to pay attention to any cautious nudges to wait, go slower, or to be more mindful or moderate. There’s still a noticeable emphasis on individuality and goals this Fall, so for people in relationships, this could be a period of time where the couple unites around some common goals that they’d lost sight of, or, where each person takes a healthy step towards detachment and stops trying to run their partner’s show.

September 17, 2020 – 6am CT – Cazimi New Moon at 25 degrees Virgo is a powerful New Moon which occurs in a close, beneficial trine relationship with disciplined Saturn retrograde. Optimistic Jupiter and powerful, transformative Pluto are also traveling near to this trine at the time of the New Moon. These powerful planets in Earth signs are likely to indicate where we have made significant progress and how far we’ve come in our willingness to transform ourselves and our lives. The results of hard work and consistent efforts can be measured now and, in fact, events could occur around this day and time that illustrate real accomplishment. One of the rewards of our planning and efforts could very well be that, in some ways, we get to have a new life. We’ve been working hard to establish a strong foundation on which we can continue to grow and build our lives and that’s meaningful, so it’s important to give ourselves credit and acknowledge the progress we’ve made. It’s also important not to compare our progress to anyone else’s since WE know how far we’ve come, under trying circumstances, and each person has her/his/their own sets of challenges.
The good news is that this New Moon opens the pathway for continued progress, and is likely to correlate with a sense of feeling stronger as we continue on the path. This could also be the new moon cycle that reminds us of what my grandmother used to say, “The reward for a job well done is… more work!” And, even though our work might not be finished yet, this month is likely to help us recalibrate, adjust, and aim again for who we set out to be, and what we wanted to have, and do, in the first place, since this New Moon connects with motivated Mars retrograde in Aries in ways that are hard to ignore. There are more reminders that patience is required and could be tested at times, as Saturn’s square to Mars reflects the need to be realistic about the time and effort required to proceed; while Pluto’s square with both Mercury and Mars reminds that forcing and pushing our way through something is not likely to go well. In order to get through important tasks, we’ll likely need to plan, persevere and focus past distractions or bouts of lethargy (Mercury, Jupiter, Neptune) even as we might also need to take strategic breaks from our efforts and obsessive thinking about them.
This New Moon also squares the Moon’s nodes, so cooperating with others will likely require extra attention and communication. Some details ARE important and when information is shared openly, projects will proceed much more smoothly, with fewer misunderstandings. Jupiter’s relationship with Neptune could also help to offer more compassion and sensitivity in dealing with others as could the Moon’s afternoon shift into Libra’s more balanced and fair-minded terrain.

With each blog post, my sincere intention is to share information in a useful way by describing the astrological energies accurately, realistically, AND whenever possible, to look for the good that is also expressing energetically, even in the midst of profound challenge and disruption.
In that spirit, I offer my latest blog post about several important energies expressing in September that resonate throughout the Fall season. Read full post here
On Wednesday, September 9 at 5:22pm CT, action planet Mars turns retrograde (backwards) in its apparent motion thru November 13. Planet Mars turns retrograde less frequently than the other planets and because its themes relate directly with taking action, having courage and moving forward, we’re very likely to notice and feel the effects of its retrograde cycle. I’ll discuss Mars retrograde more in my upcoming September blog post, but for now, here’s the scoop. Positively, this Mars retrograde phase can help us reconnect with our courage and important goals, but we’d be wise to have a sense of what’s worth fighting for and what isn’t, as anger and impatience could flare up through this time. Paying attention to our anger could be important and could help show us where we need to heal or could point toward new and energizing goals. Finding healthy outlets for pent up energy or anger that needs to express could be key to successfully navigating the weeks ahead because taking out anger on other people is not ok. Similarly, allowing others to provoke us into anger could distract us away from real and significant growth and change. Mars retrograde in Aries asks us to consider where we’re willing to stand bravely as individuals, yet it could also correlate with selfishness and forgetting that no ONE individual is more important than any other. In relationships, this could be a period of time where the couple unites around some common goals that they’d lost sight of or where each person takes a healthy step towards detachment and stops trying to run their partner’s show. Facing things directly could be easier now, yet since diplomacy and tact are in short supply, we must also remember who we are and what we care about, otherwise we could cause unnecessary damage and alienate our loved ones or potential allies if we lash out with harsh words or attitudes. https://www.theresemurphy.com/blog/

We might feel a bit out of sync with life until the evening hours today, as we show up and are ready to launch into the week after the holiday, but it seems like life itself is still in a transition and hasn’t caught up yet. So, despite our best intentions, we might start out more slowly than we’d planned. Ironically, the energy of the evening hours are more favorable for communicating and connecting in openhearted ways. It could also be easier to turn to writing projects and creative outlets between 4:30pm and 10:30pm CT. Meanwhile, if we pick one or two things to focus on, and maintain a gentler attitude, or at least, our sense of humor, we could find alternative ways to be productive.
September 4, 2020
Everywhere I go, there I am. Friday is an odd day where it could prove challenging to get into any kind of rhythm as a few astrological configurations could correlate with some irritability and a need to be flexible and non-reactive. Whether others are around or not, our own self-relationship and self-talk will likely be highlighted especially in the morning as the Moon, traveling through self-directed Aries joins Chiron, the wounded healer, reminding us of times when we felt “alone” and needed to forge our own path. Getting moving in the morning could prove more useful than trying to put things into words, while communicator Mercury conflicts with irritable Mars. Luckily, finding our voice or asking for what we need could go more smoothly in the afternoon when diplomatic Venus contributes harmonious energy. Venus also helps us realize that we’re really not alone, so choosing to reach out and connect is likely to uplift us, and helps us see that others are likely struggling with their own priorities as well. It’s definitely ok to pat ourselves on the back this evening (!) for persevering through the day and recent weeks as the Moon challenges Jupiter, seeking rewards and recognition for our efforts. https://www.theresemurphy.com/blog/

Mercury Retrograde 2020
There is one more Mercury retrograde cycle this year, 10/13 – 11/3* The year’s first two Mercury Retrograde cycles were 2/16 – 3/9 and 6/17 – 7/1.
A Mercury Retrograde Cycle is neither intrinsically good nor bad. It’s a 3 week cycle that occurs three times a year for approximately 3 weeks. During this period of time the planet Mercury appears appears to be moving backward from the Earth’s vantage point.
Since Mercury appears to be retracing its path through the heavens, it can be beneficial to revisit, review, rethink where we have been — It’s a great time to have a personal, intuitive reading to support your process of reviewing and reflecting and preparing for what’s next! Please email for pricing and to schedule your private reading firstname.lastname@example.org
Often, during Mercury Retrograde Cycles, clear perspective is lacking, needed information is missing, important details could be over-looked and delays, glitches or breakdowns occur. Paying extra attention to details and allowing extra time for travel, meetings, errands and commitments can help decrease the stress of any snafus.
Mercury retrogrades can also reflect upsets with your instruments of communication and travel. Cars, computers, phones, appliances might act up or break down completely. If you travel, allow extra time and reconfirm your reservations. Consider going somewhere you’ve already been.
*11/3 is election day – in 2000 Bush/Gore election, Mercury also stationed on election day!
*Please note: our goal is to describe the astrology energies expressing for that day regardless of your astrology sign. We hope this information might be useful to offer additional perspective to the day. Sometimes we can’t post everyday and, as always, this is our perspective only.
