Context: The archetypal symbols of astrology have been around for millenia and, basically, astrology is a language that helps us map and understand our connections with the energy of a living universe.  Astrology allows us to track archetypal human experiences and knowable life cycles.

In other words, the planets are not in charge.  They do not cause or compel us to do anything. The same divine intelligence that created us also created the planets in our solar system.  Perhaps the best way to consider how astrology works is, when we look up into the sky at the planets, asteroids and key points in our solar system, it’s like looking into a giant cosmic mirror, reflecting our human experiences, energetic cycles, and evolution back to us.  Astrologers have been observing the movements of the planets for many millenia and witnessing the correlations between planetary movements and human experiences.  The planetary movements and our cycles of consciousness and growth are part of the SAME dance of life.  So, if we’re experiencing something here on earth, either as individuals or as societies, trained astrologers look up into the cosmic mirror and see those same energetic themes expressing in the movements of the planets.

Continue Here from Mailer:

Libra’s energy figures prominently when the Sun enters the sign of Libra at the Fall Equinox on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 2:21pm CT and joins Mars and Mercury, already traveling though Libra.  With the Libra equinox, we typically feel the pull to focus more on our relationships and what we want to experience with other people, yet this year’s chart suggests that the Libra focus on balance, harmony, tact, and diplomacy in general are heightened – perhaps even moreso than on personal relationships.

The 2021 equinox chart contains messages and themes unique to this year which will continue to echo over the next 90 days.

This year’s equinox features the Sun, close to Mars, leading in an especially dynamic locomotive formation and both planets collaborating with disciplined Saturn – which is one of five planets appearing to move in retrograde motion with Mercury, also in Libra, starting its retrograde cycle a few days after the equinox on 9/26.  Five or Six planets moving in retrograde motion is a lot (see chart below for more info on retrogrades), and at the time of the Equinox, all of the inner planets, which are closer to the Sun, are moving in direct motion while all of the outer planets are moving in retrograde motion. In fact, a key feature of this year’s Equinox are the connections that occur between the inner planets and the outer planets, suggesting that our personal lives are bound up with the bigger issues and themes of life in much more noticeable and obvious ways. There’s also a strong holistic interplay revealed in these connections between between our own individual lives and the way our lives are part of a much larger whole; therefore the choices we make affect the whole even while the choices of others affect us. We can also understand more clearly and directly that actions and choices have consequences and that we are responsible for our actions and choices – in fact the mature Capricorn ascendant suggests that we are the embodiment of those choices and are wise to recognize how important it is to take ourselves and our actions seriously.

The interesting combination of Sun, Mars, and Saturn retrograde in air signs this year offers an impersonal, intellectual framework for viewing and participating in all of our relationships. In general, these energies correlate with more detached perspectives, helping us to see others as equals, friends, or fellow humans and making it easier to apply logic and diplomacy in our interactions. In short, we could find it easier to give our colleagues, friends and loved ones the same latitude we would like them to give us. Afterall, we’re each individually members of groups, communities and societies whether we’re actively participating in them or not.

There are some stronger energies expressing at the Equinox as well, with the Moon in impatient Aries opposing communicator Mercury and both squaring intense Pluto retrograde.  These energies suggest that we might also be working on deeper lessons and patterns related to individuality and reciprocation, so it could be really valuable to notice where our relationships, and expectations, and habits of communicating might be out of balance in various ways.  Pay attention to angry, obsessive, or repetitive thought patterns which are centered around control issues or pushing for very specific experiences or outcomes.  Some of these thought patterns and pressing needs for particular results might stem from old fears or historic experiences, rooted in difficulty or trauma – which can be very informative for our healing purposes – but might not really apply as accurately to our current situations.  At times we might be the ones triggered into pressing too hard, and at times, it could be other people.  Troubled communication issues could range from very rude or hurtful words, to crippling indecision, to excessive people pleasing and self abandonment.

The issues of closeness versus independence could be further intensified, including in money or financial situations, with planet Venus, the ruler of Libra energy, moving through passionate Scorpio terrain while forming a challenging opposition with unruly planet Uranus, retrograde in Taurus. Where to combine finances and where to keep them separate? Where to invest or not?  Where to just stay friends and where to pursue romantic intimacy?  Who or what deserves my time and energy? Some of these questions and issues could appear to come up unexpectedly, although upon honest reflection, they’ve probably been brewing for awhile.  Anyone craving consistency right now is likely to be disappointed as disruptions could crop up from just about anywhere. Those who are flexible or who can shift to an alternative plan might have an easier time navigating changes. Positively, this energy could correlate with unexpected opportunities to save money, improve finances, or make stronger commitments to work or personal partnerships, but negatively some situations could fall apart or end abruptly or intensely.

On a societal level, economic unpredictability, climate disasters, computer hacks, or shattering violence could continue to express and disrupt what’s left of the status quo.  However, the additional presence of Neptune retrograde in Pisces offers increased awareness of the spiritual or compassionate aspects of life, so even if something is lost or dissolves, we’re more likely to discern higher meaning from the experience – or at least a profound realization of the interconnectedness of all of life – and perhaps some wistful or elegant acceptance even in the face of significant disppointment.

Luckily, protective Jupiter retrograde in innovative Aquarius, connects with both the Moon and Mercury in positive, supportive ways which favors hopeful and improved communications, new alliances and courageous diplomacy even while old patterns sputter through our consciousness.  Personally, our friendship groups and affiliations can also grow and expand in fun and interesting ways.  So, while this might be a time of some unexpected changes, it’s not a time to give up, since positive efforts and even faith or belief the size of mustard seeds could make a world of difference and carry us forward to worthwhile endeavors.

* con sider is latin, meaning with the stars

The 2021 Summer Solstice occurs late in the evening of Sunday, June 20 when the Sun enters O degrees of Cancer, at 10:32 pm CT.  The Summer Solstice initiates the start of the Summer season in the northern hemisphere. It’s the day when we have the most daylight all year as the Sun travels its longest path through the sky. When the summer solstice happens in the Northern Hemisphere, the North Pole is tilted about 23.4° (23°27´) toward the Sun.

Astrologically, the Summer Solstice highlights Cancer energy, what we nourish and cultivate in our lives as we begin the summer season of manifestation and growth.  Summer is about the growing and blossoming of life, celebrating and enjoying the nutrients that connect us to one another and help us feel safe and alive. At the solstice, we celebrate the richness and fullness of life and the cleansing, strengthening light of the Sun.  In astrology, Cancer represents the mother and the family story, where we put down roots and establish a sense of belonging. It is our emotional, feeling nature, Cancer energy is quite sensitive, vulnerable, and protective. At times, Cancer energy can be easily overwhelmed, yet at its best Cancer is a receptive, nurturing, and very tenacious energy that asks how do I/we respond to what’s needed?

This critical, first degree of Cancer is quite energizing and carries the symbolic energy of a sailor ready to hoist a new flag to replace an old one.  The Summer Solstice affords a timely, energetic opportunity to do ritual, go inward, and connect with the divine feminine in order to recharge and restore our emotional energies and our sense of belonging in our own bodies and “families” and to inhabit our own stories.

Summer Solstice, aka the Cancer Ingress

#2021SummerSolstice #summersolsticeastrology #SunentersCancer

Each year’s Summer Solstice chart describes the major energetic themes for the next quarter as well as the second half of the year when we’re likely to see developments that emanate from what is expressing and stirring at this time.

Continue Here from Mailer:

THIS YEAR’S SOLSTICE Chart contains several noteworthy aspects which give it unique significance and meaning.  During this year’s summer solstice, planet Jupiter offers extra protection, support, and encouragement for building secure personal, emotional, home, and family foundations.  On the day of the Solstice, planet Jupiter stations to turn retrograde, joining 3 other retrograde planets. Station points are like cosmic exclamation points that really emblazon a moment with extra significance.  AND while the Sun moves into its solstice position, it also forms a special trine relationship with Jupiter in its station! This upbeat energy also offers increased faith and confidence to lean into our goals and point ourselves and our lives toward the horizon. If we do our part and tend to our responsibilities, then life is likely to open a path forward for us in ways that we can recognize and respond to. If a path does not open to pursuing a particular desire, then that goal might not be beneficial or essential for us at this time or it might simply need more time to percolate for a variety of reasons. Staying open and alert and continuing to really listen to our inner wisdom and continuing to scan the horizon and reflect on what we really want, will help to show us the way. Several key themes to facilitate progress for the remainder of this year are 1) to try not to take our blessings for granted and 2) to let go of unrealistic expectations of ourselves and others and 3) to take action on those projects and in the relationships that seem to be responding to us more easily. The downside of this combination isn’t necessarily too negative, but it could correlate with excess, sloth, or wastefulness.  Important opportunities could fall by the wayside if we don’t follow up on them in a timely fashion. The Sun and Jupiter suggest that this summer will be an interesting time of prioritizing enjoyment, planning travel, fun, and growth for the future but if we overdo the partying, we could lose the thread of growth or miss the bigger picture of what is actually ripe for change in our lives.

In general, many will find that we’re so much more ready and equipped for progress this summer than in 2020, as the astrological shape of the solstice chart is much less tight and restricted than last year’s chart – as it is above, so it is below and vice versa!  However, it’s also noteworthy that this year’s solstice chart contains a prominent fixed grand cross that suggests we must dig deep internally and strengthen ourselves and the important structures of our lives in order to set, or reset, a healthy and sustainable foundation for living. A fixed grand cross is a demanding configuration and suggests that we might really need to pay attention, especially to our own motivations and actions in order to make progress. Four prongs of very powerful planetary energies connect and pull and vie against each other, and ideally, none dominates and all must contribute. The prongs can help refine and put checks on each other to bring out what’s best and what’s needed, but there’s also the risk that they could cancel each other out or shut the others down somehow. Sometimes these types of strong and stubborn configurations are very productive and make it obvious that participation and cooperation are the best options since the alternative is tiresome and possibly destructive wrangling. In your life, you might notice various people or situations embodying or acting out one or more of these energetic players.

The Moon in passionate Scorpio drives this powerful configuration, building into opposition with unpredictable Uranus after first contacting the other 2 prongs. The Moon/ Uranus opposition suggests that any unexpected developments, though potentially upsetting or chaotic, could ultimately liberate us from people or situations that we’ve outgrown. Indeed, with Jupiter’s contribution of faith and vision, we might see that breakdowns precede breakthroughs and that there could be seeds for our good contained within the difficulty itself – or from our responses to the struggle. Thankfully, not everything unexpected is upsetting, and this combination could also serve as validation or fortification of deep desires and powerful human needs, along with the willingness to pursue them in healthy and often innovative ways. This energy could offer a certain, essential, audacity even for those who seem to have resisted taking risks in the past.  We begin to see more clearly that we’re all interconnected and that everyone needs support and we also realize that some of those more cautious folks actually needed more meaningful support, and were not necessarily lacking in courage. It’s also possible that we’ll begin to see solutions for long-standing problems emerge and that some of those solutions might actually stem from efforts over time that previously only yielded “character building” types of results.

A few hours before the Solstice, the Moon will first encounter Mars which could stir up anger, aggression, or impatience but could also activate good-hearted energy, generosity, excitement, humor, and desire for fun and celebration.  We might receive recognition and attention or, conversely, if we’re feeling ignored or minimized somehow, Mars in Leo might stir up our inner diva to speak up on our own behalf so we can be counted and included in the group. Mature Saturn in Aquarius occupies the opposite position from Mars, offering friendly, intelligent, insights and its detached energy could help temper any excessive pride. The Mars/Saturn opposition is the classic go/stop signature of the zodiac, one enthusiastically says “yes” and the other immediately responds with “no” yet ideally these two energies will both find room to express. The genuine, egalitarian, and community-mindedness of Saturn in Aquarius helps prevent any one person or situation from hogging the spotlight and can put a check on the sometimes, bellicose, braggadocious energy of Mars in Leo which might be inclined to showboat at the expense of the team.  The challenge of this Saturn placement however is a lack of tolerance, since it can be allergic to any display of child-like energy, ego, or jocularity and inclined to dismiss genuine exuberance as unintelligent, immature, or unworthy.  Excessive logic or arrogant, intellectual energy can really kill the buzz of a newly emerging inspiration and prevent a creative process from happening. However, the opportunity is to engage the wonderful, resourceful teacher that is Saturn in Aquarius since it might really be needed to applaud liveliness and recognize, foster, and help develop creative ideas. Treating boisterous ideas as opportunities to experiment, experience something new, and discover insights along the way can be great fun for all concerned, including for our inner know-it-all.

Planet Venus also figures prominently in this year’s solstice chart as it connects with both spiritual Neptune and powerful PlutoThese energies contribute compassion and creativity on the one hand and intensity and power struggles on the other.  As hard as we try, it could be hard to avoid competition, conflict, or drama, yet the bigger opportunity is to evolve or transform through the experience of some challenges. Neptune’s presence suggests there could be ways to pivot to gentler, more spiritual responses and to transcend our old ways of dealing with intensity, challenges, and limitations. Interestingly, in some cases, we might notice some of the ways we’ve already changed and find that we’re much more aware of who we’re becoming as we continue to shed the skin of the past and who we once were. At best, this combination could help us to dig deep and connect with a true sense of strength, mission, or purpose which could also involve allowing more room for authentic vulnerability and connection; and at worst, this combination could correlate with some obsessive, destructive, or addictive, escapist behaviors especially if we’re grappling with trauma fears for survival, or with illusions of trying to control people or things that aren’t really within our purview.  Many of us will experience some of both which tests our ability to maneuver through, or away from, the choppy waters of difficulty.

With 4 planets moving retrograde in their apparent motion including Mercury, much of the change and power embodied in this solstice could be happening in deep, inner, and more personal ways and we might benefit from pacing ourselves over time even as we increase our capacity for progress. Retrograde energies often remind us to slow down and digest our experiences a bit, even as we continue to move forward.  In some cases, we could encounter resistance to impatient or willful desires to push forward with our agendas or desires for change. Digging deep, we’re reminded that the resistance isn’t personal even when it seems like it, and again spiritually, most of it could ultimately be used for our good.

The archetypal symbols of astrology have been around for millennia and, basically, astrology is a language that helps us map and understand our connections with the energy of a living universe.  Astrology allows us to track archetypal human experiences and knowable life cycles.

Context: The planets are not in charge.  They do not cause or compel us to do anything. The same divine intelligence that created us also created the planets in our solar system.  Perhaps the best way to consider** how astrology works is, when we look up into the sky at the planets, asteroids, and key points in our solar system, it’s like looking into a giant cosmic mirror, reflecting our human experiences, energetic cycles, and evolution back to us.  Astrologers have been observing the movements of the planets for many millennia and witnessing the correlations between planetary movements and human experiences.  The planetary movements and our cycles of consciousness and growth are part of the SAME dance of life.  So, if we’re experiencing something here on earth, either as individuals or as societies, trained astrologers look up into the cosmic mirror and see those same energetic themes expressing in the movements of the planets.

Since we know the movements of the planets ahead of time, we have an understanding of the types of energies, cycles, and themes that are coming; these understandings can help us to choose to engage more consciously with those themes and cycles, allowing the movements of the planets to function like allies, providing useful information, meaning and context for our soul’s journey through this life.  And since each of us is unique, carrying our own energetic astrological signatures from the moment we took our first breath, the current positions of the planets will interact with our individual astrology charts in unique ways.  This is the work of astrologers: to study the current movements of the planets in relation to your birth chart and your journey, not to make predictions set in stone, but rather to offer information about the range of energetic experiences associated with the cycles activated and energized in your birth chart by the current planetary movements.

**did you know that consider is Latin for “with the stars”?

Astrology 2021, the Spring Equinox, and Nature’s New Year

In the early morning hours of Saturday, March 20, 2021, the Sun enters O degrees of Aries, initiating the Spring season in the northern hemisphere and starting the astrological and energetic year.  During the equinox, the Sun shines directly on the equator, creating almost exact equality in the length of light between day and night. The Equinox occurs at the exact same moment around the world, and looking toward the horizon, the sun rises directly in the east and sets directly in the west, whereas at other times in the year, the Sun appears off center if you’re facing those directions.

Spring Equinox, aka the Aries Ingress

This year’s Equinox carries its own distinctive, challenging and promising energies and sets the tone for the next 12 months and suggests guidelines for what to focus on for at least the next quarter, until the summer solstice.  The Spring Equinox affords us a genuine, energetic opportunity to start our year.  This is a natural time to set goals and declare our intentions for the next 12 months – to plant seeds and begin again.

2021 Spring Equinox Discussion:  What a difference a year makes!

This year’s Equinox chart is noteworthy for many reasons including how different it is from last year’s Equinox chart.  Although we are still coping with the serious and deadly  coronavirus pandemic and the accompanying economic challenges, there have been many energetic changes in the last 12 months.

The big shift underway in 2021 is away from the very practical demands and strategic instructions of the physical earth signs, with a recent preponderance of Capricorn energy, to the ideas, perspectives and information of the intellectual air signs. Last year there were 6 planets in earth signs! while this year only 2 remain; and three of the noticeable players, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn join the Moon in Air signs; with Mercury and Venus occupying the mutable water terrain of Pisces.  As discussed in greater detail in previous blog post, Jupiter and Saturn’s Great Conjunction in air signs at the Winter Solstice, completed a 200 year cycle of great conjunctions in Earth signs, and started 170 years of great conjunctions in Air signs. This year’s Spring Equinox is the first since this new era of great conjunctions in air signs began last December.

Pluto will stay in Capricorn until March 2023, when it also moves into the sign of Aquarius, shortly after the 2023 spring equinox. Notably, dwarf planet Pluto in Capricorn still figures prominently in this year’s equinox chart, leading the other planets in a fairly tight “bowl” formation AND rising in the East.  Last year’s equinox offered an even tighter “bundle” formation with Jupiter leading.

What does it mean?  Pluto moving in this degree of Capricorn symbolizes a mountain pilgrimage and I believe that we’re being asked to release the past, grieve our losses where appropriate, and accept the journey of our highest calling. This energy suggests that we each prepare and do our parts now, whatever that is. We each have our own mountain to climb.  We could access deep inspiration and strength as potent, persevering Pluto continues to lead the way until the summer solstice.  Pluto offers its well known intensity toward the need to have a mission or destiny, while Capricorn reminds us to have integrity and to use discipline in order to progress.  This could be an important time of applying what we’ve learned in useful ways, even as we strive to un-learn, or let go of, behavior patterns that have limited us too much in the past.  We’re getting ready. We’re shedding baggage. We’re getting stronger.

The preponderance of air sign energy, including Mars in Gemini makes it easier (less onerous, dutiful and obligatory) and perhaps even exciting to meet our obligations to be who we were born to be and to do what we must to contribute to the fulfillment of our souls plans in meaningful ways. It’s easier to see where our paths connect with, and diverge from, others without getting bogged down in crippling comparisons. We can detach and listen more easily to our own internal guidance and partner with others as appropriate.  With eyes on the prize, we rise.  At its best, Aquarius energy knows that we are doing our part as a member of a team and that other team members might not have the exact same assignmment as we do.  We win when the team wins. In some ways, we might be “leaner and meaner” than we were in previous years, having shed some of the heaviness or “skin” of the past.  Aquarius likes the future and thoughts of change and helps us to move forward – onward and upward!

One of the great blessings of the spring equinox is the courage that comes with the Sun in pioneering, brave Aries.  However, this year, the sometimes impetuous Sun in Aries receives a softer, more cooperative energy from sweet Venus, still travelling through mystical, creative, Pisces terrain. Venus in Pisces reminds us to listen to our inner, mystical selves and to have compassion for ourselves and others.  Similar to last year, Mercury the communicator, associated with information, learning and commerce will also be traveling through gentler Pisces terrain while harmonizing with revolutionary Uranus, the modern ruler of Aquarius, currently in Taurus. This connection helps to amplify intuitive insights and practical opportunities to preview and implement new ideas, structures and methods that benefit the larger community.  Different from last year, is the challenging relationship between communicator Mercury and energetic Mars which could correlate with too much information, impatience, intolerance, or combative attitudes. Positively, spirited debate could open up new avenues of change or adjustment. p.s. beware the hot mic!

There is also a shift in Neptune’s contribution this year with a challenging square from the Moon so we’ll need to be mindful of over-idealizing, fantasy, confusion or outright deception.  It could be wise to go slowly when making any important decisions especially if someone or something seems too good to be true.  Pay attention to escapist, addictive tendencies including any unhealthy relationship issues like playing the victim, or conversely, wanting to “rescue” someone else.  The pull to gossip could also be tempting which would not be productive and might possibly backfire.

More good news from Venus!  Last year, Venus was in its home sign of Taurus and made  a great relationship with powerful Pluto.  This year, Venus is exalted in its higher octave expression in Pisces and forms another supportive connection with potent Pluto as it leads  leads the symbolic and energetic call for transformation until the Summer Solstice.  Pluto and Venus correlate with invitations to face important truths and transform our   relationships, including who gets to hold power in the relationship, especially our relationships with women, the Earth, money and the economy.

More differences this year:  the Moon and Mars are energizing the north node of the Moon which is now in Gemini until next January 2022.  The north node shifted last May 2020 from the protective, nurturing sign of Cancer, and while in Gemini terrain, emphasizes the need to communicate, see each other as neighbors, consider other points of view, de-personalize, have fun, and look at information and data from a variety of credible sources that can inform the process. The equinox energy affords opportunities to open our minds and course correct with updated information. The Moon and Mars, along with Saturn, suggest that we’ve reached the part of the journey where we can get moving, right the ship, and begin to think in more mature ways.  It’s important to avoid getting scattered or over-excited and overstimulated, but we can begin to come around now and use our smarts – and learn from other perspectives as well.  Strategic support from solid Saturn in brilliant, ingenius Aquarius can help us to outline plans for our futures that previously eluded us  somehow.  At long last, we just might discover a way forward.  However, the ongoing presence of the Saturn/Uranus square also suggests that progress will need to include some blend of compromise between the old and the new and that neither extreme of following only the tried and true paths nor outright rebellion will likely succeed.

There’s a lot of Important Energy Changing in December 2020!

In many ways this year’s Winter Solstice Energies help to usher in the start of the Aquarian Age after 2,160 years of the age of Pisces – this is HUGE!!

Many powerful changes are accentuated this year, right at the already auspicious and powerful time of the Winter Solstice, so I will use the Solstice chart of December 21, 2020 at 4:03am CST as the framework for discussing these important and exciting energies!  Before getting to that however, it’s really fascinating to note that on 12/14/20, the day that the states’ electors cast their votes for the US election, there is a new moon solar eclipse at 23 degrees of Sagittarius. Through most of US History, electors casting their votes was a routine and barely even noted procedure – always important but usually unremarkable — yet in the year where this process has been heightened with drama, the cosmos is also intensified – as it is above, so it is below, and vice versa.   Typically, a powerful new moon ushers in a new and noteworthy cycle of change and “new beginnings” so in the current context, it’s reasonable to think that the electors will cast their votes as required and in accordance with their norms and higher ideals (Sagittarius) to confirm the election of a new president; yet that doesn’t mean the day will pass entirely without confusion (square to Neptune) or without protest or perhaps even violence (Mars square Pluto).  Not surprisingly, these energies seem to suggest that the current president will not likely admit defeat and will continue to peddle false conspiracy theories while inciting intense behavior from his followers.

The winter solstice marks the shortest day of the year and the start of the winter season in the northern hemisphere. Listen to my brief video to hear more about the significance of the winter solstice in general.  Celebrated around the globe in various traditions, the solstice can be a wonderful time for ritual to honor the moment and 2020 could be an especially gratifying year to welcome in new energy at this auspicious time.  Even a few moments of prayer, meditation, or a few notes of gratitude written in a journal could help welcome in these new and changing energies and could help bring individuals into greater alignment with their inner wisdom and creative spiritual source. Each day after the solstice grows a bit longer and gradually increases in light!

The Great Conjunction

It’s been 615 years since the Great Conjunction occurred in the future-oriented sign of Aquarius, so this particular 20 year cycle represents a sea change type of transition between one age of human existence and another. So, for everyone who’s been clamoring for change during this difficult year of 2020, the movements of the planets certainly seem to suggest that your wish is being granted!

Two very significant differences in THIS year’s Solstice energy are Jupiter and Saturn.  Both planets will have freshly moved out of difficult and austere Capricorn terrain into friendlier, community oriented Aquarius terrain only days prior to the Solstice, to come together exactly for the first time in 20 years in what as known as the great conjunction.  The conjunction of these two giants in the solar system ushers in a new 20 year sociopolitical cycle that affects global, societal, geopolitical, economic and governmental systems in profound ways. This year’s great conjunction takes place in the very first degree of the egalitarian, logical, innovative AIR sign of Aquarius– signifying yet another momentous shift.  For most of the last 200 years, the 20 year Great Conjunction has taken place in grounded, deliberate Earth signs. Interestingly, planet Uranus, which correlates strongly with the sign of Aquarius will still travel through the consummate Earth sign of Taurus for 6 more years and Venus, the ruler of Taurus, leads the planetary formations at the time of the solstice in dynamic, creative ways while also forming a challenging relationship with Uranus in Taurus.  This combination suggests unexpected alliances and the benefits of being flexible and spontaneous especially when confronted with “detours”certainly through the holiday season and through the next Spring Equinox.  This powerful, leader of the parade expression of Venus in Sagitarrius, during the solstice also makes an incredibly magical relationship with the energy of  the Great Conjunction itself ! suggesting there is no real match for faith, positive belief in ourselves, and the embrace of life as a meaningful adventure as we move forward in this amazing transitional time.

Resume reading here from mailer and social media:

Meanwhile, potent dwarf planet Pluto remains in Capricorn, traveling through this serious, responsible Earth sign for 3 more years, suggesting that we will need to  continue to apply ourselves to the hard work and responsibilities of transforming ourselves, our lives, and the systems in which we find ourselves with as much integrity as possible.  The Moon and Neptune traveling closely together in Pisces contribute spiritual, compassionate energy to these Plutonian efforts to remake and re-imagine ourselves and our world as the old ways continue to dissolve; but they also suggest that we will still need to stand firm in the face of those who continue to misuse and wield power brazenly through misinformation, disinformation and outright deception.  Indeed, we’re not done with turbulence and tumult yet, as militant Mars in petulant Aries continues to assert itself in adolescent and strident ways against the traditional structures and institutions of power and government represented by Pluto in Capricorn. These vital structures and institutions should continue to hold up against absurd, regressive assaults, yet the harm is real from the ongoing and destructive efforts to bully, pillory, and steal power rather than let go and admit defeat.  On an individual level, each of us is likely to encounter anger and resentment at times, especially if/when we fear or resist the changes to the parts of our lives that life itself would have us turn over for transformation.  Frustration with these processes is natural, yet this is not a time to give up, even as we continue to give over and align with our inner wisdom or what some would call our highest good.

On December 16, stern, limit-setting, Saturn completes its 2.5-3.0 year passage through its home sign of strategic, methodical, responsible Capricorn and enters the sign of inventive, reform-oriented Aquarius for the first time since January 1994.  Before the discovery of unruly Uranus in 1781, Saturn was also considered to be the ruler of Aquarius and it can still be useful to appreciate Saturn in its dual roles as ruler of both traditional structures (Capricorn) and future structures (Aquarius).  In other words, Saturn is relatively comfortable traveling through the Aquarian part of the zodiac, and though its passage through unpredictable Aquarius terrain over the next 2.5–3.0 years will undoubtedly be disruptive at times, the disruption is unlikely to be without some purpose.

Three days later, on December 19,  giant Jupiter also completes its 12 month passage through restrictive Capricorn and moves into the brainy sign of Aquarius for the first time since October 2009.  For the next twelve months, buoyant, optimistic Jupiter travels through much more innovative terrain, inviting us to think and explore and implement options outside of the proverbial box.  Aquarian energies correlate with more spontaneous and experimental attitudes, as well as with discovery and application of alternative solutions.  They are far less bound by conventional, outdated methods and fear-based conservatism.  New research and technology can be used to solve massive global problems, even the most logistically complex.  Community based approaches are much more likely to be implemented during Aquarian cycles with emphasis on data driven equity.  Aquarian values highlight equality and freedom, science, logic, concern for humanity, and impersonal fairness.  A new era of civic-mindedness can spring to life and opportunities to participate and contribute will abound. These energies can usher in new systems of education and learning, and new ways of tackling old problems.  Innovation and technology can be utilized to create opportunities in many settings and will likely correspond with the installation of new or improved broadband in rural areas, important infrastructure projects and new jobs, among other things. While Capricorn energy loves to apply what it has learned from hard-earned experience, Aquarius energy loves the exciting prospect of discovery and change and therefore is eager to try new things and experiment. Capricorn understands the traditional, common sense dignity of respecting limits while Aquarius energy impatiently seeks to step beyond the bounds of what is familiar and known, both to explore and to include greater diversity of experience.

Aquarius energy contains contradictions in its embodiment of the archetypes of the quirky, intelligent, individualistic eccentric who is not so comfortable dealing with its own or others’ emotions yet cares altruistically about the varying needs and equality of its fellow members of society which is sometimes symbolized by the non-conformists or “hippies”  in its communities.  It is the discipline of Saturn moving through Aquarius that can fuel these brainy energies to organize movements of people in systemic change which benefits greater segments of the population including those who have been disenfranchised and unfairly, disproportionately, or traditionally prevented from holding power. The transit of Saturn through Aquarius can help to harness the willingness and necessity to be responsible and apply it to necessary and important societal reform; while the transit of Jupiter through Aquarius contributes the enthusiasm, optimism, confidence and faith to believe that change really is possible and that it can be exciting and rewarding to participate in creating new stories and new chapters of human experience.  Jupiter is inclusive, buoyant and generous in wanting to expand opportunities and good will to more people because of the joy of mutual empowerment and mutual success.  These energies recognize that “I win when we win” and “no one wins” when so many people are abused, abandoned, and left out while the Earth and her needs are greedily and recklessly destroyed.

These planetary energies signal that change and transition are here and many breakthroughs are possible with this much brilliant, innovative and freedom loving energy.  It’s important to remember that good results are not guaranteed simply because so many people are finally ready for change – and obviously not all change is good.  The more people who have a voice and participate and see themselves as part of a community of true and fair equals, the better.  Not everyone will contribute or participate in the same ways and it’s important during the times of Aquarius to consider reasonable ways to allow for and honor individual differences while simultaneously seeking greater levels of freedom and equity for everyone.  We are transitioning into the times of the round table, where each person can choose to contribute unique talents and concerns and needs to the whole.

At times, this much unpredictable Aquarian energy could rebel simply for the sake of change without any real game plan for the future.  Its high levels of innate intelligence and insight can grow arrogant and dismissive of others, reflexively thumbing its nose in impatient “smarter than thou” ways.  Negatively, Aquarian energy can be inconsistent and can fall into a tendency to quit and leave rather than follow through on implementing new systems after criticizing or breaking up the old ones.  Dysfunctional Aquarian energy can also get a bit too comfortable in its role as the outcast or perennial outsider, and risks losing important credibility or effectiveness if it seeks only to take pot shots at those who are in the arena doing the work.  Also, extreme logic and intellect devoid of human emotion or empathy can run cold or even turn nihilistic which can become hurtful or dangerous.

Yes indeed, this is a profoundly significant Solstice! and these energies correspond with major shifts and changes that reverberate and resonate for each of us in some area of our charts and our lives in 2021 and beyond.  Since the planetary movements in our solar system reflect our own human evolution back to us – think about looking in a giant cosmic mirror! – these energies are worth knowing about.

How can you hear more about these energies and what they mean for you individually?  email Therese to schedule your appointment for a private reading.

As a metaphysical astrologer and evolutionary intuitive, my calling and interest has always been to help awaken an inspired understanding of the higher spiritual potentials and creative opportunities inherent in our lives at any given time, and astrology is one of my tools for doing this.  This is why we gather for astrology discussions– to consciously engage with the interesting, joyful and sometimes challenging work of our souls.

In your private reading or at a Talk, we’ll look at the amazing and powerful expressing and the major themes of the Now and how these energies and themes relate to YOU so you can connect to CO-CREATE THE LIFE YOU WANT.

At each Astrology Talk, attendees also receive specially crafted “soul homework” designed to help awaken the inner guidance and wisdom from your heart-mind, in concert with cosmic currents.

Do I need to know astrology to attend Therese’s talks or watch videos?

You don’t need to know anything about astrology to attend or to watch the videos.  Simply allow astrology terms to wash over you, since I provide plenty of English language words to support and develop those terms.

Therese describes enough of the mechanics of the planetary movements to provide a basic understanding of what’s occurring in the sky without getting bogged down in too many details or straying too far into astro-mythological stories that aren’t pertinent to your life.

What’s your approach, when you give a reading or a talk?

My goals are to be informative, affirming, enlightening and inspiring.  Although astrology and tarot can be complex, symbolic, language-systems with myriad ways of measuring and considering information, I’ve discovered a genuine passion and ability for making their messages accessible.  By embracing what is both magical and practical about the energy in the reading, I zero in on salient themes of a given cycle and offer valuable insights for people to consider.

Mars retrograde cycles are noteworthy for several reasons.  The planet Mars travels retrograde less frequently than the other planets, happening approximately once every 2 years and its retrograde cycle really stands out since Mars is the planet most directly associated with assertion, movement, desire and taking action.  Again, it’s important to clarify, that planets only appear to move retrograde from the vantage point of earth. Typically, we can feel the effects of a retrograde cycle both ahead of, and subsequent to, its actual retrograde cycle; beforehand, the planet enters the zone of its retrograde path, and afterward, the planet needs time to exit the re-tread terrain of its retrograde path.

What does it mean when a planet goes retrograde?

  • Closed to Earth in its orbit
  • We experience its energies differently, often heightened yet less confident, internalized, or frustrated, slowed down
  • Remains in a sector of zodiac longer – where are these degrees in your chart?
  • Appeared to retrace its path
  • Only appears to be moving retrograde

Planet Mars correlates with our ongoing relationship with our courage and motivation and when moving retrograde, we experience a process of review in order to reconnect with those fundamental energies.  The Mars retrograde cycle could help us to remember important goals we want to re-focus on.  During this time, it could be useful to reflect on people, places, and projects we’d intended to prioritize in order to assess if we still want them and if we’re willing to take any action on those priorities.  If yes, this might be the time to roll up our sleeves and address those priorities, perhaps for the first time. If no, this could be the time when we cut or eliminate those priorities.  Mars helps us ask ourselves,“what do I want?” and “what actions will I take in order to get what I want?” as well as “what is worth fighting for and what isn’t?”

This cycle could also put us in touch with anger and we might need to consider how to deal with some strong feelings in a healthy way.  Repressing anger or denying our desires is not likely to go well, yet we are also tasked to find ways of acknowledging them without harming ourselves or others.  Impatience and frustration could also be heightened during this cycle so it could be important to find healthy ways of blowing off steam.  Movement and exercise could be helpful to circulate energy and burn through strong feelings in order to get back on track, as long as we’re able to do that safely.  When reflecting on goals and desires, it’s also important to realize that it could be powerful, valuable or even magical to START working on them, even if we can’t make up for lost time quickly.  Beginning a process that honors who we really are and what we really want could be very empowering.  Mars retrograde in Aries also asks us to consider where we’re willing to act bravely in pursuit of our individual goals, but it’s wise to be mindful, since Mars retrograde can also correlate with selfishness and forgetting that no ONE individual is more important than any other.  Facing things squarely and directly could be easier now, as long as we remember who we really are and what we care about.  If we lash out with harsh words, impatience, or intolerant attitudes we could cause unnecessary damage and alienate our loved ones or potential allies.  Fortunately, diplomacy and tact are available through Mercury’s presence in Libra and will get a timely boost when the Sun also enters Libra on 9/22.

September 17, 2020 – 6am CT – Cazimi New Moon at 25 degrees Virgo is a powerful New Moon which occurs in a close, beneficial trine relationship with disciplined Saturn retrograde.  Optimistic Jupiter and powerful, transformative Pluto are also traveling near to this trine at the time of the New Moon.  These powerful planets in Earth signs are likely to indicate where we have made significant progress and how far we’ve come in our willingness to transform ourselves and our lives.  The results of hard work and consistent efforts can be measured now and, in fact, events could occur around this day and time that illustrate real accomplishment.  One of the rewards of our planning and efforts could very well be that, in some ways, we get to have a new life.  We’ve been working hard to establish a strong foundation on which we can continue to grow and build our lives and that’s meaningful, so it’s important to give ourselves credit and acknowledge the progress we’ve made.  It’s also important not to compare our progress to anyone else’s since WE know how far we’ve come, under trying circumstances, and each person has her/his/their own sets of challenges.

The good news is that this New Moon opens the pathway for continued progress, and is likely to correlate with a sense of feeling stronger as we continue on the path.  This could also be the new moon cycle that reminds us of what my grandmother used to say, “The reward for a job well done is… more work!”  And, even though our work might not be finished yet, this month is likely to help us recalibrate, adjust, and aim again for who we set out to be, and what we wanted to have, and do, in the first place, since this New Moon connects with motivated Mars retrograde in Aries in ways that are hard to ignore.  There are more reminders that patience is required and could be tested at times, as Saturn’s square to Mars reflects the need to be realistic about the time and effort required to proceed; while Pluto’s square with both Mercury and Mars reminds that forcing and pushing our way through something is not likely to go well.  In order to get through important tasks, we’ll likely need to plan, persevere and focus past distractions or bouts of lethargy (Mercury, Jupiter, Neptune) even as we might also need to take strategic breaks from our efforts and obsessive thinking about them.

This New Moon also squares the Moon’s nodes, so cooperating with others will likely require extra attention and communication.  Some details ARE important and when information is shared openly, projects will proceed much more smoothly, with fewer misunderstandings.  Jupiter’s relationship with Neptune could also help to offer more compassion and sensitivity in dealing with others as could the Moon’s afternoon shift into Libra’s more balanced and fair-minded terrain.

Libra’s energy will figure more prominently when the Sun enters the sign of Libra at the Fall Equinox a few days later on Tuesday, September 22 at 8:31am CT and joins planet Mercury, already traveling though Libra.  This equinox chart contains messages and themes that will continue to echo over the next 90 days.  With this Libra equinox, we feel the pull to focus more on our relationships and what we want to experience with others.  After a long year of varying degrees of social isolation, we consider how to bring our personal lives back into balance safely. Ordinarily, the exuberance and spontaneity of this year’s Equinox chart would correlate with increased travel, socializing, and playfulness, but during the ongoing Covid pandemic, the strong suggestion for this chart is to channel social needs into creativity as much as possible.  Exploration of our talents could be a rewarding pivot away from exploration through travel.  Venus, the ruler of Libra is also moving in heightened aspects with both Jupiter and Neptune, calling out in positive ways for optimism, self expression, and imagination yet, in negative ways, these energies could correlate with serious lapses in restraint and common sense as both the urge to escape and the pull to excess are strong.  Serious Saturn could contribute some mature, sobering, reality checks on any unrealistic urges, so it could be useful to pay attention to any cautious nudges to wait, go slower, or to be more mindful or moderate.  There’s still a noticeable emphasis on individuality and goals this Fall, so for people in relationships, this could be a period of time where the couple unites around some common goals that they’d lost sight of, or, where each person takes a healthy step towards detachment and stops trying to run their partner’s show.

Additional Astro Info: As mentioned in previous blog posts and in greater detail in January 2020 Astrology Talk  “we are all still reverberating from January’s PROFOUND Saturn-Pluto conjunction in restrictive Capricorn which correlates with FOUNDATIONAL CHANGE and endings IN THE MAJOR STRUCTURES and institutions and systems of our lives, our societies, governments, workplace, health care, etc – think of just about any major construct in the life of an individual, a neighborhood, or a society and they’ve all been under massive stress and pressure to evolve.”  Saturn and Pluto continue to travel fairly closely together in the sky this Fall, along with magnifier Jupiter.

There is so much that can be said about these energies, which represent a turbo-charged call for us to align with the power of our intentions, integrity, and our sense of deep purpose, in challenging, demanding and invigorating ways. THE GOOD NEWS: is much old energy is available to be healed and transformed as we complete these cycles in preparation for new systems and energies that are coming in the weeks and months ahead as Jupiter and Saturn move from traditional Capricorn to innovative, future-oriented Aquarius at the end of the year!  Pluto will move into Aquarius in March 2023, shortly after the spring equinox, so we will likely be involved in massive shifts for some time to come.

It’s a new dawn. It’s a new day.

The Leo New Moon cycle ties the energies of love and responsibility together in a continuous, alternating circuit of adjustment and readjustment. This circuit of energy sets the tone for the next month and also ties the vibrant energy of youth to the experience of the elders and suggests that moving forward in 2020 requires the participation of both.  On Tuesday night, August 18, 2020, the Sun and Moon combined along with Mercury in the creative, expressive sign of Leo and formed a tight relationship with disciplined Saturn moving retrograde in its home sign of dutiful Capricorn, with expansive Jupiter and transformative Pluto traveling nearby.  Saturn offers a wise, firm hand to remind of the genuine importance of experience and integrity while the Leo planets shine light on traditional structures to infuse them with much the needed heart and soul that they’ve lost sight of, or were simply too limited to acknowledge and express.  On a personal level, if you love someone or something, have you said so lately? Does it show?  If you’re young and looking for something new, have you even tried listening to those who love you?  Not all existing are structures are bad even if they’re over due for improvement and not all guidance is about trying to control. Setting limits and priorities can be a very loving thing to do and learning to be accountable can help build confidence.  It takes character and love to hold ourselves and others accountable without sliding into endless, ineffective, cycles of blame and excuses.

Honest and real examinations can lead to clarity and help set the stage to reform, reshape and rebuild.  It’s time to do the essential work of building and establishing trust and Mars in self-directed Aries suggests that each person must look within, or look around and pay attention, in order to begin that process for her, him, or themselves.  It could be as simple as starting something, setting one goal, or taking one action that helps things in your life work better and possibly also helps you feel more connected to other people or the world.  While Mars in Aries reminds us that each person can choose how to take a step forward, responsible Saturn is there to urge that we actually do take that step and to remind that one person’s step forward should not be at someone else’s expense.  Selfish attitudes are not useful, especially if they insist on tearing everything down without regard for the genuine protocols that help keep us all safe.  And, conversely, impatient or even angry calls for necessary accountability and holistic, significant change are not the same thing as wanting to tear everything down.

Meanwhile, Venus and Uranus also combine in a lovely relationship that invites diversity, equality, and community with technology featuring in a significant way.  Change is possible and it is happening – in fact, change is already here.  On a personal level, trudging through life without having any fun, laughter or joy is not the same as living, so turning towards creative expression and the people we love could actually be necessary and important.  Similarly, love, fun and laughter can help us to build endurance and strength.

Spiritually, these New Moon energies suggest that we might actually be learning about the hope and possibilities offered in turning towards the light.  Mars square Saturn offers a challenge to get started, do one thing, and let go of thinking that we already know how things are going to play out.  Yet, energetic Mars also throws lively support to all of the Leo planets, helping us to embrace this day as a new day and accept, on some level, that we are each here to inhabit and express the energies that we are born with, more fully and open-heartedly.  These New Moon energies support open minds and also offer the courage to open our hearts and to persevere with the efforts required to show up and develop ourselves through important plans.  Mercury the communicator, asks us to listen to the ways that our lives are calling us to shine and to speak up, even as we might still need to make room to feel some losses.  This new Moon is a huge invitation to ask, what talents, hopes and dreams are awakening for expression?  Hint, pay attention to nudges in the direction of happiness, that’s a good place to start.

“Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it.” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, philosopher, scientist, author

On the evening of Saturday June 20, 2020, at 4:44pm CDT, the Sun enters O degrees of Cancer, followed 6 hours later by the New Moon Solar Eclipse!

Summer is about the growing and blossoming of life, celebrating and enjoying the nutrients that give us joy and help us feel alive.  At the solstice, we celebrate the richness and fullness of life and the cleansing, strengthening light of the sun.  In astrology, Cancer represents the mother and the family story, where we put down roots and establish a sense of belonging. It is our emotional, feeling nature,  Cancer energy is quite sensitive and protective and can be easily overwhelmed, yet at its best Cancer is a receptive energy that asks how do I/we respond to what’s needed?  The Summer Solstice affords a timely energetic opportunity to do ritual, go inward, and connect with the divine feminine to recharge and restore our emotional energies and our sense of belonging in our own bodies and to inhabit our own stories.

Summer Solstice, aka the Cancer Ingress

This year’s Solstice is QUITE powerful and noteworthy since it occurs 6 hours prior to a New Moon Solar Eclipse at  0 degrees of Cancer!  This critical, first degree of Cancer is quite energizing and carries the symbolic energy of a sailor ready to hoist a new flag to replace an old one.  Eclipses serve to heighten, magnify and sometimes distort the energies expressing at the time, which in this case, are already heightened and magnified!

Transforming or overcoming fears of scarcity and depletion are major themes of this Solstice since all of the planets are traveling in a tight formation, known as a bowl configuration, with transformational Pluto retrograde leading the pack. This bowl configuration, although not quite as tight as the Spring Equinox bundle, is still pretty snug and represents a creative urge to break free from what’s familiar, safe and secure and express one’s self fully, but doing so requires great courage and willingness since the risk energetically or emotionally feels like “everything.”  To get out of one’s comfort zone and risk the current level of security without knowing if it will be replaced also requires faith.  There could be deep seated fear of depleting one’s energy or resources and five planets moving retrograde in their apparent motion, including Mercury and Venus, exaggerate the notion of not being able to move forward easily or well. Retrograde energies generally tend to be more beneficial for reflecting, waiting, reviewing, re-organizing and clearing.  For some, this tight formation with so much retrograde energy expressing, could suggest that it’s important and valuable to go inward to nourish and strengthen themselves, their home base, and tend to their essential well-being so that they can heal and recover before moving forward or outward.  Interestingly, the Solstice and Eclipse energies which both represent powerful points of change and initiation of new cycles – like the sailor raising a new flag- contrast with so much retrograde energy and this contrasting push/pull energy could ALSO symbolize a birthing process of something new.

Similarly, it’s noteworthy that both the Solstice and Eclipse occur in a challenging, uneasy quincunx (150 degree relationship) with responsible Saturn retrograde in early Aquarius. Once again the themes of withholding energy are emphasized as Saturn often contains lessons about deep seated fears and feelings of inadequacy that can cause us to hold back.  This quincunx reflects important questions currently stirring about belonging and fitting in and what constitutes family and community and how to play a part. Saturn in Aquarius represents both authentic needs for autonomy as well as responsibilities to the group, in addition to a tendency to withhold. It could be useful to remember that some who are not participating more fully in the group yet, might not believe or understand that they are worthy or have anything meaningful to offer.  Often Saturn needs a bit of time to wait, witness and prepare but once engaged can bring great discipline, dignity and perseverance to bear.  Saturn can also represent elders and it could be important for folks who are more senior to consider how they can contribute to the community or global family as well as for young people not to dismiss, or judge harshly, the value of elder’s perspectives and the sometimes more measured contributions of seniors.

Continued 2020 Summer Solstice Discussion:  This year’s Summer Solstice chart describes the major themes expressing for all of us for the next quarter and half of 2020, when we are likely to see surprising events that emanate from what is stirring now. The Summer Solstice affords us a genuine, energetic opportunity to do ritual, go inward, connect with divine feminine and inner wisdom.

Even though much has already happened in 2020, this Summer Solstice followed shortly by such a magnifying event like the Eclipse suggests there is still much to unfold yet in 2020 — so it’s very important to keep up with self care and staying grounded.  Being gentle with ourselves and others whenever possible could be vitally important even as we pursue important goals.  Not to be melodramatic, but one of the recent times we had a Summer Solstice concurrent with a solar eclipse was in 2001 which, of course was pivotal in US history because it was the summer of  the 9/11 attacks.

Planet Mars also figures prominently in the chart of the Summer Solstice/Eclipse and contrary to planet Saturn, impatient Mars sometimes would have us do things before we’re ready while Saturn is very adept at waiting and watching and preparing. It seems these two energies could be at odds over the summer, although the need to proceed slowly, thoughtfully and methodically could align more closely with the serious energies of the corona virus and states re-opening; while Mars relates more noticeably with the civil unrest and outrage over the murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, institutionalized racism, and excessive police violence against often unarmed, African Americans and people of color.  The Summer Solstice chart also contains the signatures of anger and outrage as warrior planet Mars is in strong and challenging relationships with the solstice and eclipse energies, indicating that protests could continue and define the Summer of 2020.  Luckily, brave and militant Mars also forms supportive relationships with protective, beneficial Jupiter and powerful, unrelenting Pluto in determined Capricorn, indicating there can be profound structural change, justice, expanded opportunity and economic protections for the broader population.  Indeed, Mars in Pisces represents the courage and fight both by and for those who have been under-served, under-represented and made invisible or victimized.  Again, since Pisces energy is the spiritual consciousness of all-ness, compassion and inclusion, its expression through energetic Mars connecting with massive Jupiter and potent Pluto suggests that structural change that is real, meaningful and lasting can happen.

As I’ve said before and as we discussed in greater detail in January 2020 Astrology Talk  we are all still reverberating from January’s PROFOUND Saturn-Pluto conjunction in restrictive Capricorn which correlates with FOUNDATIONAL CHANGE and endings IN THE MAJOR STRUCTURES and institutions and systems of our lives, our societies, governments, workplace, health care, etc – think of just about any major construct in the life of an individual, a neighborhood, or a society and they’ve all been under massive stress and pressure to evolve. Saturn and Pluto continue to travel closely together in the sky this summer, along with magnifier Jupiter.  There is so much that can be said about these energies, which represent a turbo-charged call for us to align with the power of our intentions, integrity, and our sense of deep purpose, in challenging, demanding and invigorating ways. THE GOOD NEWS: is much old energy is available to be healed and transformed as we complete these cycles in preparation for new systems and energies that are coming in the weeks and months ahead as three of these planets move from traditional Capricorn to innovative, future-oriented Aquarius this year!  Pluto will move into Aquarius in March 2023, shortly after the spring equinox, so we will likely be involved in massive shifts for some time to come.

Astrology Talk “Sowing the Seeds” January 22, 2020 Chicago, IL FREE video excerpt of Astrology Forecast 2020!

Earth Day New Moon Report 2020

This year’s Earth Day energies corresponded with Wednesday night’s New Moon in Taurus, which occurred a couple of hours after sunset, at 9:26pm CT, ushering in a new 30 day cycle.  The first few days after a New Moon are times to plant seeds and put forth goals and plans for the next 30 days.  This new Moon in pragmatic, earthy Taurus reminds us to connect with our heart-centered values, establish practical routines, and to find a pace that we’re willing and able to maintain consistently – in order to continue taking action, building on, and developing our plans.  Taurus energy is a good-willed, hard-working energy that performs best when calm, rested, fed and when not rushed, or pushed too hard to deliver on someone else’s priorities or deadlines.  Taurus New Moon times help us to focus on what is essential, like food, shelter, work/earning/budgets and again, finding rhythms for living that are sustainable.  Taurus wisdom knows that, like music, we all have our own rhythms for optimal performance and must do what we can in order to stay grounded and true to those rhythms without falling into stagnation or ruts.  As with all new moon cycles, opportunities exist for each person to consider what resonates about the particular wisdom of the time and make choices about how to best align with or harness that wisdom – ideally for the good of all concerned.

There’s much we can see from this New Moon’s configurations, but first it’s important to remember that the planets are not in charge – it’s useful to think of them like giant cosmic mirrors, reflecting our own consciousness and situations back to us.  In the Taurus New Moon Chart, we see all the planets traveling together in close, bowl formation with powerful Pluto, the transformer, leading the way.  Pluto represents the depths of our being where our true power is stored, and sometimes repressed, along with other aspects of ourselves that we have not been able or willing to look at – including our bigger talents and our sense of having a mission!  In order to recover this deep purpose and inner reserve of energy and strength, Plutonian journeys often ask us to embrace a mystery, or at least allow that we might be experiencing a much bigger process that we don’t fully understand.

This potent New Moon chart shape reflects the enormous creative potentials of those of us sheltering at home and not coming out to be seen… yet.   Powerful Pluto also represents the first responders trained to show up and deal with intense, life and death situations!  First responders, health care professionals, and essential workers are leading us during this profound time when nature and the Earth itself (Taurus) seem to need many of us to stay inside (stay inside the bowl!) out of the way while the Earth and humankind both fight to find their way back to balance.  At my Astrology talks in January, we also addressed the concept of mining for gold and this Earth Day New Moon occurs at the degree of the zodiac symbolizing the rainbow’s pot of gold!  Symbolically, each of us is mining our own lives for gold: wading or digging through some version of our shadows, dysfunction, or grief.   At times, we’ll simply turn to face issues we have not seen or looked at previously – perhaps issues that we avoided- that we’re likely strong enough to face now, especially with support!  Now, we can strive to clear out old, outworn, or decayed elements from our situations, consciousness, and our lives in order to uncover, recover, or rediscover hidden gems of strength, talent, compassion, leadership, and unity.

As we also talked about in January, the combination of planets Jupiter and Pluto will help to provide the energy and protection for extraordinary, monumental efforts to change, heal, recover and transform!

Mining for Gold within our own life experience

In honor of Taurus – Keeping it Simple: A useful Plutonian question for the month/year from January Talk, “what part of my life would I like to see transformed?”  Sometimes just naming it or considering the question and then surrendering it to the mystery can facilitate change.

On Thursday, a few hours after the New Moon cycle begins, the Moon in Taurus connects with disruptive Uranus (followed by the Sun’s conjunction with Uranus on Sunday 4/26) challenging the status quo and prompting us to shake-up our routines. The tricky part of this spontaneity-seeking energy is that boredom and restlessness could prompt us to overthrow parts of our lives and routines that are already working well, rather than focusing on new experiences or different areas to improve and build on.  Throughout Thursday, the Moon also builds into a challenging relationship with militant Mars, further challenging us to direct our pent-up energy towards a worthwhile objective.  It’s also possible that these two combinations could reflect continued calls for defiant, immature forms of revolution against community quarantine safeguards.

On a societal level, the continued tension of those in power who manipulate frustrations (also Pluto) to fuel dissent (Uranus) in order to avoid responsibility (Capricorn) by asserting/inflaming the rights of the individual (Uranus, Mars in Aquarius), as if the individual were not also a member of a community (Aquarius) with unique choices and responsibilities to contribute to the common good of human kind (also Aquarius) will play out through this lunar month.  It will be interesting to view these energies again at the time of the full Moon when the Moon in Scorpio will also challenge Mars in Aquarius from the other side of the zodiac.

When is the next Astrology Talk?

Stay tuned! I hope to offer my next astrology talk on –line in Spring or early Summer 2020

What’s Therese’s approach, when talking about astrology?

In the astrology discussions I offer, my goals are to be informative, affirming, enlightening and inspiring.  Although astrology can be a complex, symbolic, language-system with myriad ways of measuring and considering information, I’ve discovered a genuine passion and ability for making astrology accessible to laypeople.  By embracing what is both magical and practical about the language, I zero in on salient themes of a given cycle and offer valuable insights for people to consider.

You will gain increased awareness of the divine dance of the cosmos that we are all intimately connected with, so that it’s easier to consciously engage with the energies expressing during a given time.

I believe these energies and themes belong to all of us, and express for all of us, and I love speaking of them in ways that people can begin to understand, embrace and make good use of in their own lives.  I describe enough of the mechanics of the planetary movements to ground people in a basic understanding of what’s occurring in the sky without getting bogged down in too many details or straying too far into astro-mythological stories that aren’t pertinent to people’s lives.  I strive to share this information with as much kindness, good humor and grounded wisdom as possible since the planetary bodies and their movements are already spectacular and don’t really need to be sensationalized.  In my discussions, I invite audience members to consider stepping up their games in bite-sized, gentle ways and I offer soulful, homework themes to take home so they can appreciate, track and enjoy the journey!!

Peace to you – Be well and safe during these challenging times!

The archetypal symbols of astrology have been around for millenia and, basically, astrology is a language that helps us map and understand our connections with the energy of a living universe.  Astrology allows us to track archetypal human experiences and knowable life cycles.

Context: The planets are not in charge.  They do not cause or compel us to do anything. The same divine intelligence that created us also created the planets in our solar system.  Perhaps the best way to consider** how astrology works is, when we look up into the sky at the planets, asteroids and key points in our solar system, it’s like looking into a giant cosmic mirror, reflecting our human experiences, energetic cycles, and evolution back to us.

Since we know the movements of the planets ahead of time, we have an understanding of the types of energies, cycles and themes that are coming; these understandings can help us to choose to engage more consciously with those themes and cycles, allowing the movements of the planets to function like allies, providing useful information, meaning and context for our soul’s journey through this life.

Astrology, the Spring Equinox and Nature’s New Year

On the evening of Thursday, March 19, 2020, at 7:50pm CDT, the Sun enters O degrees of Aries, followed on March 24th by the New Moon in Aries, initiating the start of the Spring season in the northern hemisphere and heralding the start of the astrological year.

2020 Spring Equinox Discussion:  Challenges AND Reason for Hope

This year’s equinox takes place during the ever-changing, serious landscape of corona virus and not surprisingly, the Equinox chart is noteworthy for many reasons.  As discussed in greater detail in January 2020 talk,   https://www.theresemurphy.com/astrology-discussion-2020-forecast/

we are all still reverberating from January’s PROFOUND Saturn-Pluto conjunction in restrictive Capricorn which correlates with FOUNDATIONAL CHANGE and endings IN THE MAJOR STRUCTURES and institutions and systems of our lives, our societies, governments, workplace, health care, etc – think of just about any major construct in the life of an individual, a neighborhood, or a society and they’ve all been under massive stress and pressure to evolve.  Indeed, with this Spring Equinox, four planets – Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto – are traveling in tight formation through Capricorn while nestled, along with the rest of the planets, between the cosmic lovers, Venus and Mars in approximately 120 degrees of the zodiac.

There is much that can be said about these energies, which represent a turbo-charged call for us to align with the power of our intentions, integrity, and our sense of deep purpose, in challenging, demanding and invigorating ways. On a practical or more mundane level, this many planets moving through serious, austere Capricorn terrain continue to call for an abundance of caution, adult, reasonable behavior, and mature, responsible attitudes. Capricorn asks us to behave as wise elders, connect with inner discipline, adjust to more time alone, and to move forward with dignity and self-respect, honoring strongly defined limits and boundaries – whether anyone else is watching or giving us credit for it or not.  Often we will need to do more with less.  It’s important not to go too far with spartan, self-denying attitudes which could lead to isolation.  Effort will likely be required to reach out, connect, and keep up with important self-caring activities.  In many ways, functional Capricorn energy teaches that the effort itself is the reward and that the ends do not justify the means.  Keep an eye on resentful moods that, on a deeper level, could serve to remind us of difficult past experiences when we might’ve felt forced to deal with limitations beyond our control.

THE GOOD NEWS: is much old energy is available to be healed and transformed as we complete these cycles in preparation for new systems and energies that are coming in the weeks and months ahead as three of these planets move from traditional Capricorn to innovative, future-oriented Aquarius this year!  Pluto will move into Aquarius in March 2023, shortly after the spring equinox.  Obviously, many of these shifts will take time yet, at the time of Equinox on Thursday, the Moon, which represents the public, will be in Aquarius, offering a preview of these shifts as it occupies the degree of the zodiac symbolized as a train entering a tunnel, thematically leading the rest of the planets forward into future territory.  Additionally, courage and strength are available as the Sun in pioneering, brave Aries creates a supportive relationship with sturdy Saturn in those very late degrees of Capricorn.  We could glimpse previews of newer ideas, structures and methods as Mercury, the communicator, associated with information, learning and commerce will be traveling through compassionate Pisces terrain and harmonizing with revolutionary Uranus, the ruler of Aquarius.

More good news! Venus is very strong at this Equinox, traveling through its home sign of earthy Taurus strengthening and encouraging our heartfelt appreciation of our true values, beauty, relationships and essential reverence for life.  Venus is under a bit of stress from the Moon, but relates beautifully with its cosmic lover, Mars, during this Equinox and both enfold ALL of the other planets in their cooperative embrace, symbolizing that a unified balance between masculine and feminine sensibilities and wisdom is required, and perhaps – AT LONG LAST– is coming into manifest fruitionSpiritual, boundless, mystical Neptune adds considerable grace, compassion, and angelic support to this divine union of Venus and Mars, as it sits half way between them occupying the degree of Pisces associated with a master teaching its pupil.

The Saturn Pluto Conjunction

*One of the major energies of 2020 we discussed at the Talk is the Saturn/Pluto conjunction which is a key energetic factor in this year’s themes, challenges and opportunities.  Please follow me on social media for more regular access to information like this:

On Sunday, January 12, 2020 a major and rare astrological event occurred when two slow-moving outer planets, Saturn and Pluto, joined (shared same degree of zodiacal longitude) for the first time since 1982, correlating with a major phase of long-term evolutionary shifts.  This 34-38 year cycle of Saturn and Pluto occurred at 22 degrees of serious Capricorn and the last time these two astrological heavyweights combined in Capricorn was 500 years ago!  This powerful energetic combination has been developing for awhile now and will continue to inform much of the next 1-3 years.  Everyone has 22 degrees of Capricorn somewhere in their astrology chart and knowing more about this could be useful!

Saturn is the planet associated with grown up responsibilities and commitments, asking us to review and assess our priorities, let go of what isn’t working, and develop practices and discipline to achieve our goals.  Pluto is an intense, powerful energy associated with purging and eliminating that often precedes or accompanies significant transformation.  Strength, perseverance and determination are enhanced with this combination, yet it could be challenging not to get carried away with spartan, no-nonsense, or harsh attitudes. The Saturn/Pluto combination correlates with fundamental change in the major structures of life, and with seeking new foundations on which to build the next 34-38 years, a process which will likely involve some amount of deconstruction or dismantling of existing structures and foundations.  Generally, the more consciously we can engage our highest intentions and willingly cooperate with what life would have us release, the better.  Since these energies are expressing through the serious, often austere sign of Capricorn, they could correlate at times with a melancholy, or glass half empty way, of viewing our situations.  Taking time for quiet reflection, walking, or journaling could help still our minds and bring us into alignment with our inner dignity, peace and purpose.  Preparation, common sense and reasonableness, will go along way towards weathering any hardships.
