Context: The archetypal symbols of astrology have been around for millennia and, basically, astrology is a language that helps us map and understand our connections with the energy of a living universe.  Astrology allows us to track archetypal human experiences and knowable life cycles.

In other words, the planets are not in charge, and do not cause or compel us to do anything. The same divine intelligence that created us also created the planets in our solar system.  Perhaps the best way to consider* how astrology works is, when we look up into the sky at the planets, asteroids, and key points in our solar system, it’s like looking into a giant cosmic mirror, reflecting our human experiences, energetic cycles, and evolution back to us.  Astrologers have been observing the movements of the planets for many millennia and witnessing the correlations between planetary movements and human experiences.  The planetary movements and our cycles of consciousness and growth are part of the SAME dance of life.  So, if we’re experiencing something here on earth, either as individuals or as societies, trained astrologers look up into the cosmic mirror and see those same energetic themes expressing in the movements of the planets.

#2023 Saturn in Pisces

#VirgoFullMoon  #FullMoonsquareMars

On Tuesday, March 7, 2023 planet Saturn will enter the astrological sign of Pisces for the first time in 27 years, inaugurating a significant shift in planetary energy that continues to express over the next 2.5 – 3 years, until February 13, 2026.  This shift is applicable and meaningful for everyone, not just Pisces people.

Notably, this major shift also occurs just one hour after the highly charged Full Moon in Virgo which squares planet Mars and opposes planet Neptune, which are not easy planetary configurations. The Virgo/Pisces Full Moon offers potentials for healing and forgiveness but also represents stress over exacting attitudes, perfectionism, missed opportunities and disappointments. Adding planet Mars to the mix could correlate with increased anger, impatience, and aggression while Neptune could contribute confusion, uncertainty, or feelings of overwhelm. This post focuses on some of the major themes of the 2-3 year passage of Saturn through Pisces rather than the current Full Moon cycle.  The last transit of Saturn through Pisces occurred in the 1990s from May 21, 1993 through April 6, 1996.

Saturn will remain in Pisces for approximately 3 years and will noticeably affect those areas of your natal chart containing planets and house placements in Pisces, Gemini, Virgo, and Sagittarius.

Saturn, often referred to as the taskmaster, is the planetary energy that corresponds with serious review and the application of pressure, integrity, and discipline to the basic structures in our lives.  Saturn’s entry into Pisces signals a shift in focus away from the impersonal Aquarian world of the intellect which features logic, data, and objectivity and into the highly subjective and feeling realms of perception, imagination, and consciousness itself.  Saturn in Pisces will test our fundamental flexibility and will call us to adapt and flow with changing, possibly even dissolving or disappearing circumstances. This cycle is an experiential test of our ability and willingness to release aspects of the past that no longer serve us and to accept, integrate, and synthesize what is still useful and true into our lives. For many, this cycle will correlate with various transitions that can sometimes seem mysterious and could even feel confusing, like we’re somehow being asked to navigate through unknown or unfamiliar terrain where we can’t see very clearly.

Continue Here from Mailer:

During this transitional cycle of de-emphasizing logic* and embracing intuitive information and emotional intelligence, we need safe containers for our feelings and time to spend with our imaginations. Luckily, Saturn’s knack for structure and organization could help us to provide those safe outlets for ourselves or to seek competent others to assist us. Time spent writing in a journal could help clear our minds of clutter and to access our feelings, higher intelligence, and compassionate perspectives.

*de-emphasizing logic does NOT mean abandoning logic or common sense completely!

In some ways, the passage of Saturn through Pisces is a time to apply ourselves to turning our dreams into reality. Although it might be challenging to distinguish illusions or pie in the sky fantasies from our true imagination and heart’s desires, Saturn’s influence could assist us in weeding out such distortions.  With Saturn in Pisces, there could also be a tendency toward pessimistic distortions that get in the way of pursuing our dreams, such as “I’ll never find the time, or the money” or “This is too hard. I’m not good enough” or “I’m all alone and no one will help me” etc.  So be on the look out for all sorts of distortions, because they are likely exaggerations that need to be sorted, discarded, or updated in order to heal and make progress. Generally speaking, Saturn in Pisces is a major cycle for reviewing and releasing old energies, and negative beliefs to make way for updated dreams and more viable pathways.

Saturn in Pisces is an ideal time to find consistent methods of healthy retreat into artistic or spiritual practices like music, painting, poetry, yoga or meditation. Time spent in nature, especially near bodies of water, or even safely floating in a swimming pool could be deeply restorative and healing. Saturn in Pisces is an important call to allow ourselves to connect with our imaginations and to understand the need for healthy reverie as an essential human priority. With consistent effort, some folks might even develop previously hidden or long forgotten talents.

Pisces is the most naturally compassionate sign of the zodiac and Saturn’s responsible and fortifying presence might motivate us to make real and productive contributions to help others in need.  Volunteering and working behind the scenes could be very satisfying experiences.  However, it’s important when dealing with Pisces energy not to pursue any goals, dreams, aspirations, or relationships blindly. Taking time and thinking things through, Saturn’s specialties, could help to reveal misguided notions and prevent harmful self-sacrifice.

It’s possible that over the next 2-3 years, some of our most valuable lessons could come through disappointments – and it’s important to remember that learning through disappointment is sometimes a very natural part of life. We might begin to understand or sense that we’re finishing up a current phase and it could be really useful to make time to deal with our feelings around any endings or losses. We might be learning more about where we’re gullible or vulnerable to deception, either from others or ourselves. Even though not all deceptions or miscues are intentional, sincere efforts to be clear or firm in our boundaries could help to alleviate them. Saturn in Pisces could also help some folks to recognize problems with unhealthy or extreme forms of escapist behavior, whether through isolation, addiction, or toxic/dysfunctional relationships. Seeking professional help or support to address those issues could be very timely.

Ideally, the maturity and discipline of Saturn’s energy moving through the sign of Pisces over the next 3 years can help us to gain clarity, willingness, and determination to release stagnant energy appropriately AND to pursue our genuine hopes, talents, and dreams which might otherwise get lost in vagueness, lethargy or despair.
