Context: The archetypal symbols of astrology have been around for millennia and, basically, astrology is a language that helps us map and understand our connections with the energy of a living universe.  Astrology allows us to track archetypal human experiences and knowable life cycles.

In other words, the planets are not in charge, and do not cause or compel us to do anything. The same divine intelligence that created us also created the planets in our solar system.  Perhaps the best way to consider how astrology works is, when we look up into the sky at the planets, asteroids and key points in our solar system, it’s like looking into a giant cosmic mirror, reflecting our human experiences, energetic cycles, and evolution back to us.

The 2022 Summer Solstice occurs early in the morning of Tuesday, June 21 when the Sun enters O degrees of Cancer, at 4:14am CT.  The Summer Solstice initiates the start of the Summer season in the northern hemisphere. It’s the day when we have the most daylight all year as the Sun travels its longest path through the sky.

At Summer Solstice, the North Pole is tilted about 23.4° (23°27´) toward the Sun.

Summer Solstice, aka the Cancer Ingress:

Astrologically, the Summer Solstice highlights Cancer energy, which we nourish and cultivate in our lives as we begin the summer season of manifestation and growth.  Summer is about the growing and blossoming of life, celebrating and enjoying the nutrients that connect us to one another and help us feel safe and alive. At the solstice, we celebrate the richness and fullness of life and the cleansing, strengthening light of the Sun.  In astrology, Cancer represents the mother and the family story, where we put down roots and establish a sense of belonging. It is our emotional, feeling nature, Cancer energy is quite sensitive, vulnerable, and protective. At times, Cancer energy can be easily overwhelmed, yet at its best Cancer is a receptive, nurturing and tenacious energy that considers how best to respond to what’s needed.

This critical, first degree of Cancer is quite energizing and carries the symbolic energy of a sailor ready to hoist a new flag to replace an old one.  Generally, the Summer Solstice affords a timely, energetic opportunity to go inward, to recharge and restore our emotional energies and our sense of belonging in our own bodies and “families” and to inhabit our own stories.

Each year’s Summer Solstice chart describes the major energetic themes for the next quarter as well as the second half of the year when we’re likely to see developments that emanate from what is expressing and stirring at this time.

Continue Here from Mailer:

THIS YEAR’S SOLSTICE chart contains several noteworthy aspects which give it unique significance and meaning.  During this year’s summer solstice, it could be challenging to measure when to assert ourselves and when to ease up as the Sun forms a challenging square relationship with the Moon and expansive Jupiter in impatient Aries.  These energies are likely to amp up impatience and motivation to make progress, but we could be confronted with situations where all we can do is our own part and that could be hard to accept.  Indeed, we’re feeling restless for adventure and greener pastures and quite determined to get on with it, but we could start to spin our wheels and create problems if we don’t ease up after completing our portion of the task on any given day. To be clear, it is time to press on with goals we’ve set for ourselves and to strive to complete them so that we can move forward, since this Solstice activates the closing quarter of the Moon phase. In the weeks ahead we could also experience some reluctance to leave what is comfortable and familiar, yet as much as possible, it’s time to consider how to grow and to keep going.  Positively, this closing square energy could correlate with increased courage, optimism, and pursuit of leadership roles, especially if we’re willing to lead by example. Negatively, these energies could become too bossy or insistent and we might find it hard to manage our anger and impatience when things take longer than we want. Self-indulgence, disregard for important details, and waste could also threaten to derail any good will or positive momentum.

Luckily, curious, energetic Mercury is moving direct and makes positive connections with the Moon and buoyant, optimistic Jupiter offering fun distractions when we need a break – but more importantly, offering an array of options to consider and discuss so we can pivot away from selfishness or one track minded approaches. These energies could also help us make interesting plans or rediscover our inner student, eager to learn and perhaps get additional training.  Disciplined Saturn in Aquarius could provide more mature perspectives and friendly, logical reminders to stay on track with plans, even as the Sun moves away from Saturn’s positive influence.

As it starts into the sign of Cancer, the Solstice Sun is also still connecting with potent Pluto and nebulous Neptune in challenging ways, which could heighten frustration around the desire to move forward, especially if we’re feeling unclear about our mission or purpose.  These energies suggest that the weeks ahead could still require ongoing adjustments and a willingness to face the unknown, since so much has yet to be revealed. Mysterious Pluto could provide subterranean, emotional clues about what we really want and who we’re really becoming, although it might take some time to uncover those clues and to admit to ourselves what we want, if we’re not currently feeling very powerful.  Yet with Pluto involved, our passion and truth often provide the raw material for transforming into the next phase of life, as we learn to move on and discard what is no longer needed of our past.  Take heart, we’re not necessarily supposed to have it all figured yet and the Cancer time of year is about nurturing the processes that allow us to grow.

At times, it could be challenging to persevere through the discomfort and uncertainty of getting out of current comfort zones, but with Pluto leading the way in this year’s solstice chart formation, it really does seem that we’re being asked to change in important ways – and facing that fact squarely could become increasingly difficult to avoid.  Societally, this is also a powerful time of making profund adjustments in order to build a more secure future, again while facing many unkowns. It’s helpful to remember that we can’t force ourselves (or others) to change, but when we let go of resistance to change, we’re more likely to receive the valuable inner guidance and strength we need to take the next steps.

Luckily, planet Venus, in its steady home sign of Taurus, adds much needed common sense as it also connects with both spiritual Neptune and powerful Pluto in easier ways.  These energies correlate with increased compassion, creativitive imagination, and positive drive to cooperate and tackle important issues. This combination could also offer practical perspectives that help simplify and identify the mission or purpose so that we can embrace what is ours to do.
